A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966)

This screen adaptation of the stage musical finds the Roman slave Pseudolus (Zero Mostel) scheming his way to freedom by playing matchmaker for his master's son, Hero, who is smitten with the beautiful Philia. However, things don't go according to plan. The complications that ensue involve blackmail, funny disguises ,and long-lost children. All the while Pseudolus desperately tries to keep up with his end of the bargain.
 

 



Ocean's Eleven (1960)

Danny Ocean (Frank Sinatra) calls on some of his World War II buddies, including Jimmy Foster (Peter Lawford), Sam Harmon (Dean Martin), and Josh Howard (Sammy Davis Jr.),  to pull off an elaborate New Year's Eve heist at five casinos in Las Vegas. Eleven members of Danny's crew come together to pull off the perfect robbery, but they suffer a series of setbacks when Duke Santos (Cesar Romero), a former gangster, tries to prevent Ocean's plans to disappear with the money.


 

A Star is Born (1954)

Hollywood actor Norman Maine (James Mason) is a celebrity whose star is on the wane, but when he meets aspiring actress Esther Blodgett (Judy Garland), he is inspired to help her, and soon the two appear in a musical together. Now known as Vicki Lester, she marries Norman and finds herself in demand, while his reputation continues to decline, resulting in heavy bouts of drinking. Eventually, Vicki must choose between moving forward with her career and attempting to save her husband.


 

Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

While recovering in a hospital, war hero Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan) grows familiar with the "Diary of a Housewife" column written by Elizabeth Lane (Barbara Stanwyck). Jeff's nurse arranges with Elizabeth's publisher, Alexander Yardley (Sydney Greenstreet), for Jeff to spend the holiday at Elizabeth's Connecticut farm with her husband and child. However, the column is a sham, so Yardley hastens to arrange a publicity ploy by setting up single, non-domestic Elizabeth on a country farm.


 

Akeelah and the Bee (2006)

Akeelah, an 11-year-old girl living in South Los Angeles, discovers she has a talent for spelling. She hopes this talent will take her to the National Spelling Bee. Despite her mother's objections, Akeelah doesn't give up on her goal. She finds help in the form of a mysterious teacher, and along with overwhelming support from her community, Akeelah might just have what it takes to make her dream come true.
