Weather Hunters Premiere Event Blows into Oklahoma with OETA and the National Weather Center

Oklahoma families, get ready for a storm of fun and learning! OETA is teaming up with the National Weather Center in Norman to present a special premiere event celebrating the launch of Weather Hunters, the exciting new animated PBS KIDS series created by Emmy-winning TODAY show host Al Roker. This fun-filled family day includes an exclusive screening of the show and interactive weather science activities that will spark the curiosity of kids and adults alike.

Date: Wednesday, June 25th

Time: 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Location: 120 David L. Boren Blvd. Norman, OK 73072

Registration: bit.ly/OETAWeatherHunters

Designed for children in kindergarten through second grade, Weather Hunters follows eight-year-old Lily Hunter and her weather-savvy family as they explore everything from puddles and wind to hurricanes and thunderstorms. The star-studded voice cast includes Al Roker as dad Al Hunter, Holly Robinson Peete as mom Dot Hunter, Sheryl Lee Ralph as neighbor Ms. Joyce, and LeVar Burton as Lily’s trailblazing great-grandfather Wallace.

The event will take place at the world-renowned National Weather Center, where science meets storytelling. Home to top meteorological minds from NOAA, the National Weather Service, and the University of Oklahoma, the center provides the perfect setting to dive into the wonders of weather and how it impacts our everyday lives.

In addition to the premiere screening, young guests can enjoy hands-on STEM activities like building pinwheels to measure wind speed, using bubbles to observe air movement, and identifying cloud types just like real meteorologists. These educational stations align with free classroom-ready resources available now at PBS LearningMedia and PBS Parents.

The learning doesn’t stop at the event—PBS KIDS is also launching new digital games like Weather Reporter and Weather Explorer, where kids can create forecasts and learn about extreme weather in interactive ways. Explore these and more at PBSKIDS.org.

Whether your child is a future meteorologist or simply fascinated by clouds and storms, Weather Hunters brings science to life in the most entertaining and accessible way. The full series premieres on PBS KIDS September 8, 2025—but thanks to OETA and the National Weather Center, your family can get a sneak peek and an unforgettable day of discovery.
