OETA Names Shawn Black as Executive Director

Oklahoma City, OK – The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) announced today that Shawn Black has been named Executive Director of OETA and Chief Executive Officer of Friends of OETA, following his service as Interim Executive Director since April 2024.

Black has been with OETA since 2018, previously serving as Chief Operating Officer, where he oversaw the network’s financial and operational strategies, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient resource management. With more than 27 years of experience in government and nonprofit leadership, Black brings a strong record of strategic vision and organizational stewardship to the role.

Prior to joining OETA, Black served as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Association of Youth Services (OAYS) for 15 years and as a legislative fiscal analyst for the Oklahoma State Legislature for 12 years. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Under Black’s interim leadership, OETA has continued to expand its educational impact, grow community partnerships, and enhance programming that reflects the people and stories of Oklahoma.

“The OETA Authority Board is proud to appoint Shawn Black as our new Executive Director,” said Lisa Greenlee, Chair of the OETA Authority Board. “Mr. Black has served OETA well for the past seven years in the Chief Operating Officer position and has served for the past seven months as the interim director. The Authority Board has full confidence in Mr. Black’s ability to lead OETA and believes his skill set will guide OETA well into the future. We look forward to working alongside him and the wonderful staff at OETA to continue to make OETA the most-watched PBS station in the nation and to provide continued educational and emergency notification services to our great state.”

“I’m deeply honored to continue serving OETA and Friends of OETA,” said Black. “OETA plays a vital role in connecting Oklahomans to trusted information, lifelong learning, and inspiring storytelling. I look forward to leading our team in strengthening that mission for communities across our state.”
