Happy May, fellow bookworms!
If you haven’t heard, The Great American Read kicks off Tuesday, May 22 at 7 pm on OETA. This groundbreaking TV series and nationwide campaign launches a national conversation about reading and a vote for America’s best-loved book. To make things a bit easier for everyone, PBS has compiled a list of 100 books nominated by industry leaders which is now available to review.
After the launch and throughout the summer, Americans will be reading and voting for their favorite book on the list. Then, starting Tuesday September 18, the series will continue with five documentaries organized by themes: love, heroes, self-discovery, other worlds and what it means to be American. As voting closes, we’ll finally discover America’s favorite book during a celebrity-packed finale on Tuesday, October 23.
So, it’s time to dust off the bookshelf and start reading! I think I’ll have to carve out some time to revisit Gus, Call and the gang on the trail in Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. Incidentally, does anyone want to start a book club?
