POSITION: NEWS PHOTOJOURNALIST-Oklahoma City

The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority announces the opening of the full-time position titled NEWS PHOTOJOURNALIST located in the News/Public Affairs Department in Oklahoma City.  The most qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is primarily responsible for working with a reporter and producer to provide video stories, including long-form, in-depth pieces, for the weekly statewide news program, the Oklahoma News Report (ONR). Duties include:

  • Operate ENG cameras (Sony XD-Cam) and non-linear editing equipment (Avid);
  • Work closely with reporters to coordinate visual and verbal story content;
  • Maintain equipment in proper working condition;
  • Other news and public affairs duties, as assigned, including operating studio cameras, in studio and on location, and working on other news and public affairs programs; and
  • Editing of own work and that of others; and newsgathering.  Projected work assignments will require some in-state and occasional overnight travel. Expenses will be reimbursed at rates provided by Oklahoma Law.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of formal education in photojournalism or cinematography preferred.
  • Work experience with ENG video recording equipment required, with preference for candidates with Sony XD Cam experience.
  • Experience with Avid non-linear editing system or other non-linear system required.
  • Extensive work experience with specified or related equipment may be substituted for formal education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of visual news storytelling and how stories are produced with effective pictures, lighting, and audio.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with a reporter to create professional-quality news, issue and special interest stories for a statewide audience.
  • Knowledge of Oklahoma politics, laws, economy, geography, history and interests will be helpful.
  • Successful candidates must:
    • Have computer skills.
    • Be able to lift up to 50lbs and have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
    • Be able to do field photography and reporting that requires mobility in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations, where the employee will be exposed to the prevalent weather conditions and terrain.
    • Be able to travel long distances around the state, in state vehicle and meet deadlines.
    • Be able to work outside regular work hours, as needed, from time to time.

 

COMPENSATION

Salary range: $27,730-$29,730. A generous benefit package including health, leave, retirement plus much more is included.
