Living without AC (5:23)

The extreme heat brings a double dose of discomfort. Being outside in stifling temperatures is bad enough, but if you stay inside where it's air conditioned, soaring electric bills are the price you pay for relief. It's even worse for thousands of people who either lack air conditioning or have just enough to make one or two rooms livable. That means finding someplace, anyplace, to stay cool during the day and waiting until late in the evening for the house to cool off enough to get a night's sleep.

Oklahoma is among the leading states for the number of what are commonly called puppy mills. Places where dogs are bred and produced for sale. After two years of debate and compromise the state legislature approved a new law with the goal of improving living conditions for the dogs and bringing some order to the industry. However, enforcement of it is on hold to give breeders more time to get kennels cleaned up and licensed. And now the new law is the subject of a lawsuit.
