When it comes to putting women behind bars, Oklahoma tops the nation. Actually, per capita, our state incarcerates more women than any other state, or country, in the world. Now, the department of corrections is working to keep as many of the current female prison inmates from coming back into the system as possible, by helping them identify a new way of life. Budget cuts have reduced reintegration programs over the past few years, but programs still in place are working. Oklahoma's female recidivism rate is 14-percent. That's much better than in Texas and Arkansas, where about 20-percent of released inmates return to prison.
