It is the signature issue for Governor Mary Fallin, reducing and eliminating the state income tax. Since she unveiled her plans in this year’s State of the State speech, legislators have been grappling with her plan and others that have been put forward that take different approaches on eliminating a source a funding that provides a full third of the money to run state government. Noted economists have reviewed the plan and several have blasted the plan as based on voodoo economics and worse. Tonight we talk about tax reform, is it possible in an election year and your questions about reducing the tax bite in Oklahoma. Joining us to take your questions is State Rep. Mike Brown, a Democrat from Tahlequah and Senator Gary Stanislawski, a Republican from Tulsa.

The Department of Human Services is the largest agency in state government. It's annual budget is in excess of 2-billion dollars and that doesn't count the hundreds of millions in federal matching dollars. There are more than 7-thousand people employed by DHS who are involved in more than 40 different programs to help the young, the elderly, and the poor. But one division more than any other gets the lion’s share of the attention, publicity and controversy. Child welfare. Tonight we talk with a pair of state representatives who have been involved in the process of bringing change to DHS and answer your questions on The People’s Business. Representative Gus Blackwell is a Republican from Goodwell, Oklahoma and represents the panhandle and much of northwest Oklahoma. Rep. Richard Morrissette is a Democrat from Oklahoma City and represents part of the southern part of the city. In the name of full disclosure Bob Sands and his wife have been foster parents for many years and adopted several children whom they have fostered.
