Stateline's July, 2008, episode, The Rolls, has been nominated for a regional Emmy award from the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The Rolls was nominated in the Historical Documentary category. Winners will be announced July 18th.The Rolls chronicled the work of the Dawes Commission, a controversial government body charged with solving the "indian problem" which was perceived in the late 19th century. Indian territory was seen along the Potomac as a wall blocking the westward expansion of the United States.
The Dawes Commission's "divide and conquer" strategy placed Indian families on tribal rolls and assigned them individual plots of land in an effort to assimilate Indian people.
