As the economy gets worse, more and more Oklahomans are going to bed hungry. Food stamp use is at an all-time high in the state and food banks report and increase of 50% in the number of families asking for help.
Oklahomans are very proud, and few would admit that they sometimes skip a meal in order to pay the bills. But as more people lose their jobs the safety net to keep Oklahomans fed is being stretched to its limit.
OETA's award winning documentary series Stateline takes a look at the lives of two people who never thought they would have to ask others for help, and examines the struggle to feed those in need.
Some Oklahoma families were struggling to meet their basic needs before the recession, now reports indicate that one in six Oklahomans are living below the poverty level.
