OETA Summer Pledge Drive Begins August 4

AugustFest 2010 begins Wednesday August 4 at 7p.m.

OETA-The Oklahoma Network recently announced the lineup for its annual summer pledge drive, AugustFest, beginning Wednesday August 4 at 7 p.m.

The funds, received during the statewide network’s annual August pledge drive, will enable OETA to purchase programming for next year.

AugustFest 2010 programs include a new special, Marvin Hamlisch Presents: The ‘70s, The way We Were, featuring performers re-creating their big hits from the 1970s: Oklahoma native BJ Thomas, Three Dog Night, Debby Boone, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr., Ray Stevens, Freda Payne, Guy and Ralna, Bobby Goldsboro, Billy Joe Royal, Peaches and Herb, Jonathan Edwards, Gloria Gaynor and Hamlisch himself.

Also included in the AugustFest lineup are Carole King and James Taylor, Live at the Troubadour, airing Thursday August 12 at 9 p.m., which reunites the pair for a stunning performance, Aretha Frankiln Presents: Soul Rewind, airing Monday August 9 at 9 p.m., featuring rare performances by classic soul and R&B artists, and The Big Band Years, airing Wednesday August 4 at 7 p.m., which revisits the legendary orchestras, singers and song standards popular during the World War II era.

Other pledge programs include Ed Sullivan’s Rock and Role Classics: The Sixties, featuring full performances by The Beatles, The Doors and more, airing Sunday August 8 at 8 p.m., Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart, with lush arrangements of Irish classics and contemporary covers, airing Tuesday August 10 at 7 p.m., and Magic Moments: The Best of 50s Pop, featuring Oklahoma native Patti Page and more, airing Thursday August 5 at 7 p.m. AusgustFest 2010 concludes with the Best of AugustFest, Sunday August 15, featuring the top pledge programs.

OETA-The Oklahoma Network received several honors at the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters Association 2010 Awards in Oklahoma City. State of Creativity’s Christi Mitchell (pictured) took home the first place prize for video editing “T.A.S.K.,” which explored the creative ways Oklahoma is battling the state’s rising gang activity.
