Brick by Brick
OK CITYSCAPES

After months of painstaking work, brick artist (Lego, that is) Kurt Zimmerle is back home in Michigan working on his Halloween haunted houses. What he’s left behind is a masterpiece that will benefit Oklahoma City’s poverty stricken children for years to come.

Zimmerle constructed about 50 Oklahoma City buildings like the state capital, the Skirvin Plaza, Bricktown and the as yet unbuilt (in real life) new Devon tower. (It stands 9 feet tall) out of Lego bricks.  Anyone who saw his work in progress would ask, “How many bricks did you use?”    Kurt hasn’t done an exact count because he says he does not have time, but he estimates he has used around 1,000,000 bricks to construct OK Cityscapes.

OK Cityscapes is this display’s official title.  To say it is amazing would not be an exaggeration.   You can see OK Cityscapes beginning November 14th and through the holidays at Penn Square Mall.  Proceeds will go toward operating costs of Oklahoma City Educare, a new state of the art child care and education facility for children living under the federal poverty level.   ‘

Our cameras were rolling on much of the construction of OK Cityscapes. We’ll show you how it all come together and what it takes to be a “brick artist” on Gallery:  Brick by Brick.   That’s November 4th at 9:00pm.
