Sticks and stones, toys and bones...interpretation is left to the beholder. Behold the work of The SkullMaster, Joey Williams on the July installment of Gallery.
Williams, was raised in the heart of the Bible belt, but grew up pushing the envelope of his conservative Oklahoma surroundings. Often the outcast, he used art as a means of social escape and his fascination of the natural world lead Joey to incorporate natural elements such as skulls and bones into his work. This chosen medium eventually lead to his moniker as “The SkullMaster.” Holding degrees in both art and biology, this is an artist who can capture your attention and maybe even shock you with great skill. Humphries, who calls himself an artistic historian, turned his attention to portraying atrocities over a decade ago and in doing so, found his purpose…his artistic voice. His work uses bright colors and a cartoon style to depict some of mankind’s darkest moments and this technique has an impact. These paintings are not peaceful, but they will make you think. They might even make you angry, but if it makes you consider the human condition, then Eric Humphries has accomplished what he set out to do.
