O.U. is Cutting Its Budget

$20-million is being cut from the budget of the University of Oklahoma. The cuts will be achieved by early retirement buyouts for faculty and staff which will impact about 400 people. Other positions will be eliminated and department budgets cuts will include decreases in purchases and travel.

New Penny Sales Tax for Education Vote Gets the Green Light

The state Supreme Court rules that O.U. President David Boren's plan for a vote on a penny sales tax hike to fund common education can be put to a statewide vote. The high court rejected claims the measure combined multiple subjects into a single vote. OCPA a conservative think tank had opposed the measure. Backers says it will generate $615-million dollars a year for education.
