The Cherokee Nation has officially made the leap from Native Culture to Pop Culture. The Cherokee language is the first native language to be featured on the newest i-Phone from Apple: the i-Phone 4. Younger Cherokee generations are now using a language that was nearly forgotten, and taking it into the 21st Century Classroom.

New leaders of the Oklahoma House and Senate agree the budget hole lawmakers are looking at is more like $600-million not the $226-million recently approved by the state Equalization Board. The new chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee says he will focus this year on a review of the states tax system. Rep. David Dank says his goal is to eliminate personal income taxes in favor of higher sales taxes on merchandise other than groceries and prescription drugs. A new national study lists Tulsa #1 and Oklahoma City #7 as worst cities in the nation for smoking. State drug officials expect the final figures for 2010 will show the highest number of meth-lab seizures in six years. In 2009 drug agents broke up 743 meth labs.

Former Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee has a new job. Governor-elect Mary Fallin has named him as the new Secretary of State. As talk of repealing health care reform increases, new provisions of the law are now in effect. We talk with an expert on what’s new and what would change in health care if the law was repealed. They were large and had horns. A discovery at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History of the skeletal remains of pre-historic rodents that had horns. The discovery had been sitting in storage since the 1950’s and only recently was re-discovered. We talk with Oklahoma Turnpike officials about a change that may require people with Pike-Passes to buy additional passes instead of moving their current hard case from car to car.

Scientists at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History in Norman say they have found evidence of what may be a new species of ancient rodents that once roamed western Oklahoma. The discovery of these ancient horned rodents was made when a fossil was found inside a section of earth sitting on a museum shelf.
