OETA Specials Focus on Two Generations of the British Royal Family

Email share

Whether it’s history, royal weddings or palace intrigue and gossip, the British monarchy has long been a subject of fascination for Americans. This month, the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) offers specials focusing on two generations of the Royal Family, The Queen Mother and Margaret: The Rebel Princess.

The Queen Mother, 8 p.m., Feb. 8, offers a moving profile of one of the most respected members of the British Royal Family. Find out how she and King George VI steered the country through the darkness of WWII and how she later forged a new role for herself as the senior matriarch of the Royal Family. With testimonials from royal experts and insiders, as well as extensive archive materials, The Queen Mother examines the life of a woman with a will of iron.

Margaret: The Rebel Princess, 9 p.m., Feb. 10 & 17, is an insightful new two-part biography of Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth’s beautiful and rebellious younger sister. Through new interviews with several of her closest friends, this documentary reveals Margaret as the first truly modern princess ― a superstar who introduced a flash of Hollywood glamour into Buckingham Palace and paved the way for Diana, Kate and Meghan. A woman yearning for escape in a post-war world eager to shrug its own oppressive constraints, Margaret became a powerful and unpredictable force, reflecting and driving fundamental changes in our attitudes about the monarchy, celebrity, marriage and sex.
