Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People coming to OETA-HD

Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People is embedded with a group of cyclists from the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from North Carolina as they embark upon a life-changing journey. The cyclists retrace the steps of their ancestors on the Trail of Tears, traveling nearly 1,000 miles on their bikes, from Georgia to Oklahoma in the heat of the summer. See this Oklahoma produced documentary Thursday, June 23 at 7 p.m. on OETA-HD.

The ride is a tribute to the Cherokees who were forced to walk the same route as part of the Federal government's Indian Removal Act of the 1830s. It is also an educational experience for the young people who visit significant historic sites along the way. OsiyoTV captures the riders' physical fatigue from the three and a half week- long journey and some emotional situations as they are faced with the real history of their ancestors.
