The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) will air a marathon of the critically-acclaimed British drama CALL THE MIDWIFE July 2-4 on OETA OKLA. The five-season marathon begins at 8 a.m. each day and includes both holiday specials.

As the series beings in the spring of 1957, a newly minted midwife arrives in the East End of London to begin her career. After overcoming the initial shock that her new home, Nonnatus House, is a convent and not a private hospital, she quickly becomes immersed in her new life. Living with nuns and working in a community of colorful characters are different from anything she has previously encountered. Through her, experience the sorrows and joys that come with being a midwife.

Season 2 stays true to the show's roots — more births, babies and bicycling, plus blossoming romance from an unexpected quarter. The third season takes viewers to 1959, the eve of the Swinging Sixties. The winds of change are sweeping through the country and the residents of Nonnatus House face some momentous changes of their own. In Season 4, the community prepares to enter a new decade — the 1960s.

Throughout the fifth season, the most recent of the series, the midwives encounter complex and challenging medical cases, ranging from an outbreak of typhoid to the increase in lung cancer, a teenage pregnancy and a mother who vanishes. But all are rocked when two babies with severe deformities are born under their care, several months apart from one another. As they struggle to understand why, they must find ways to deal with the resulting medical and emotional fallout.

CALL THE MIDWIFE is created and written by Heidi Thomas; Executive Producers are Pippa Harris and Heidi Thomas. The series is a Neal Street Production for BBC/PBS and is distributed by BBC Worldwide North America. The series is adapted from the best-selling memoirs of Jennifer Worth.
