Western Lowland Gorilla Born at OKC Zoo

Last Updated by Bob Sands on

There's a new arrival at the Oklahoma City Zoo.  Earlier this week staff discovered a new-born Western Lowland Gorilla on the floor of the Great EscApe day room.  His mother Ndjole, however, did not show any interest in the new born so it is being hand raised by staff and a group of volunteers.

He has undergone a complete physical exam and is said to be in excellent health.

The little boy is the 27th gorilla born at the zoon since 1974.
