BLACKWELL, Okla. (AP) - A Charlotte, North Carolina-based company is announcing plans to build a wind power project in northern Oklahoma.

Duke Energy Renewables said Thursday that it will build a 2,000 megawatt wind farm near Blackwell in Kay County. The farm will have 61 wind turbines.

The company said in a news release that the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2016 and will produce enough electricity to power about 60,000 homes.

Duke Energy also said the wind-generated electricity will be sold to City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri, under a 22-year contract.
